Santiago is an environmental historian trained in political ecology. His research focuses on the environmental history of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) and the early years of the Francoist dictatorship in Spain. He has participated in a research about the history of the cooperative movement in Barcelona, focused on the Barceloneta neighbourhood. Together with Emma Alari and Marc Dalmau, he is the author of the book La forja solidària d’un barri portuari. La Barceloneta obrera i cooperativa, published by La Ciutat Invisible.
